2020 is over and so is the PS4’s time to shine. There’s a new kid on the block and it truly is something else. The PS5 is here!
With major improvements made to the PS4, a new controller and 3D audio, the PS5 really is a dream come true. Did we mention that it is also backwards compatible? Meaning that you can play all your PS4 games just using a far more superior console with faster loading times, 4K resolutions and indescribable graphics.
On the PS5’s top charts we saw Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales taking the cake on the US, Canadian and European charts. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was a close second with Demon’s Souls and FIFA 21 hot on its heels.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
This PS5 exclusive was so popular in 2020 it reached number 1 and we can see why. The game offers the signature CoD combat style and stays true to the CoD way with zombies, multiplayer and warzone all available for playing.
The Cold War era-Zombies require player to be alert and make use of the specially designed weaponry in order to dominate and destroy the walking dead. For veterans of the game and newbies, this feature is said to take you on a wild ride that is a step up from the CoD zombie franchise we’re so used to seeing.
The Warzone feature harbours a free-to-play experience that leads you into an operation to uncover secrets and experience what it might have been like to be in combat during the Cold War in Verdansk. You’ll experience the tension building in the month leading up to the war and be a part of some of the historic moments that occurred.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
This launch game was possibly one of the most spoken about games from 2020. This action-adventure game is based on the Marvel comic superhero Miles Morales. The game was developed by Insomniac Games and was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment especially for the PS5 and PS4. The game is based on the story of Miles Morales that has been around for almost a decade and the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse which boosted the ratings quite significantly. The game follows the story of Mile Morales as he tries to navigate himself through life as Spider-Man and balance his duties as a ordinary civilian and the well-known superhero. When his hometown Harlem is threatened by the bug Roxxon Enery Corporation in partnership with the Underground, it’s Miles job to save the day and prevent a war from happening.
The game is played from a third-person perspective and players are focused on the combat side of things. They can also travel around New York City freely, interacting with other characters, take on missions and unlock various cool gadgets. Players are also able to take on outside missions that will unlock additional items and improve combat skills in an attempt to take down the enemy using combat focuses that will incapacitate the enemy without damaging the surrounding environment.
The game was released at the same time as the new PS5 console in November, with a PS4 version being released the same day. The PS4 version lacks some of the advanced features but that is due to the PS4 lacking the PS5’s new technology and improvements.
Overall the game has received very positive review from the public with the narrative and combat being praised.
The game was dedicated to the late Chadwick Boseman, who died 2 months before the release date.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Fighting for second place is definitely Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and is a first of its kind. Set in the Viking age in Britain, the story follows Eivor as he raids the city and fights his way through the conflict he has with the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order. The game is set in the time period 873 AD and is the twenty-second game we’ve seen from the Assassin’s Creed series.
The game is available for Microsoft Windows, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Stadia and of course the PS5. The PS5 version was released at the same time as the next gen console and has received raving reviews from critics who applaud the graphics and storyline.
So, whether you have or haven’t gotten you hands on the latest console, you’ll soon be looking for some games to play and these top 3 are a great place to start. They will show off your new console and provide you with endless entertainment.
