If you are looking forward to the launch of the PlayStation 5 as much as we are then you are going to love this little list that we have put together, just for you. There are lots of similar articles out there in the wild, but these are the confirmed titles that we are most excited about.
Of course, not many have actually been confirmed as yet which isn’t that unusual but there are certainly enough for us to get stuck into for the moment.
Cyberpunk 2077 – Cross Generation
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most hotly anticipated games of any console, and while it is not a PlayStation 5 exclusive it will be a cross generation title. It will appear on the PS4 first in September and will then be available for the PS5.
Taking place in an open-world setting, in a surprisingly on-the-nose named Dystopian Night City, with six distinct areas to explore. Players take control of a mercenary, in the first-person view. As with other Role-Playing Games, the player can acquire various skills, weapons and an array of objectives as play progresses.
Developed and published by CD Projekt RED, Cyberpunk 2077 makes use od the REDengine 4 game engine, which was also developed by CD Project RED – originally for The Witcher series of games.
LOTR: Gollum
There is no clear release date for Lord of The Rings: Gollum, but it isn’t likely to be available before 2021. German Developer Daedalic Entertainment has said that the title will be released on PC and “all relevant console platforms at that time”. We take this to mean that Gollum will release at the same time on PS5 as it does on PC, so we won’t have long to wait whatever happens.
Apparently, the game story will feature everything that happens before his main appearance in the first book that he debuts in. we can only assume that this will also involve his story in-between book appearances too.
Recent Middle Earth titles have received mixed responses, but we are really hoping this offering will be something special – especially with the power now available to developers.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 5 – Cross Generation
Probably as predictable as yet another FIFA title (seriously, just have roster updates as DLC) we are to be treated to another Call of Duty offering. Despite what you may think of the series, there is no denying that it has plenty of fans so this announcement should have plenty of people salivating.
Already confirmed as a cross generation title, so likely appearing on PS4 at roughly the same time as PS5 on launch, it is likely going to be cross-platform too. There are no hard facts available, just a gut feeling based on the relative success of Warzone.
We are not certain of the setting, but it looks as though it will be set during the Cold War.
Watch Dogs: Legion
An incoming action-adventure game, Watch Dogs: Legion will be the third instalment of the series. Developed by Ubisoft Toronto, published by Ubisoft, WD:L is a third-person, open-world take on a fictional representation of London.
The game has been delayed from March is now won’t likely see daylight before December 2020 (this is the new guestimate release, one before it being sometime before April 2021).
There is speculation that this will be a PS5 exclusive but considering the original two titles were not platform exclusives this seems unlikely to us.
Godfall
Perhaps the most anticipated release title that has actually been confirmed, is Godfall. First announced at the 2019 Game Awards, Godfall is expected to released on PlayStation 5 somewhere late 2020 although an official release date has not yet been mentioned.
An action role-playing title, Godfall has been developed by Counterplay Games and is being published by Gearbox Publishing. The devs say they are bringing a new genre to the game playing table, and that is “loot-slasher”. This, Counterplay say, rewards players that play ‘well’, as opposed to them just grinding with no discernible effort involved in order to progress.
So, although there is no set-in-stone release date, Gearbox have officially confirmed the release and we can expect to be able to play this on PS5 somewhere during the Holiday Season.
To conclude
There are many other hotly anticipated titles that are fully expected to be released for the console, such as GTA: 6, but they haven’t made this list because there has been no confirmation. That being said, the ones that have been confirmed look amazing and we cannot wait to get our mitts on them!
