ITVX is one of the UK’s best-known streaming services. Alongside other UK offerings like BBC iPlayer and Channel 4’s streaming wing, ITVX is the home of some of the UK’s most-watched content, including shows like Love Island, The Only Way is Essex, and Britain’s Next Top Model, as well as sporting events like the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
As such, you might be wondering whether it’s possible to get ITVX on your PS5. The answer is perhaps not what you might want to hear, but we’re going to talk you through it anyway. Here’s our guide to whether or not ITVX is on PS5 and what you can do as an alternative if you want to check out this excellent streaming service.
There’s no ITVX app on PS5
Let’s get the bad news out of the way first: there’s no ITVX app on PS5. This means that if you want to watch ITVX content natively on your machine, you won’t be able to do it.
What’s more, since the PS5 doesn’t have a built-in browser app, you won’t be able to navigate to ITV’s website in order to watch content there, either.
To put it simply, ITV isn’t supporting the PS5 with its app right now, and it’s also not available on PS4, so if you had the idea to travel back in time to Sony’s last-gen console and try it there, you’re out of luck, unfortunately.
Where is ITVX available?
It might be small comfort, but ITVX is only available on Xbox consoles and isn’t accessible on the Nintendo Switch, so it’s not just PS5 users that are being left in the lurch.
If you want to watch ITVX, you can do so on Samsung smart TVs, iOS or Android mobile devices, and Roku TVs. Of course, you can also use screen mirroring technology if you want to watch ITVX on your TV; using a Chromecast or similar will achieve this.
A full list of all of the devices that are supported by ITVX can be viewed here via the app’s official website. Other devices include LG smart TVs, Sky Glass, and the TalkTalk TV Hub.
Can you screen mirror ITVX to the PS5?
Some have said that they’ve achieved success by screen mirroring their phones to their PS5 using a certain screen mirroring app online.
The app is simply called “Screen Mirroring App”, and you can find it on Google Play or the App Store. It’s also available in the Huawei app store, the Amazon store, and as a Windows desktop app.
However, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend using this app, as user reviews tend towards the negative, with many saying that you must pay a premium if you want to access smooth, lag-free streaming (and some say that even then, the app is unreliable).
In general, if you’re looking to screen mirror ITVX content to your TV in some way, you’re better off simply mirroring your phone to your TV using a Chromecast or similar external device, or using your TV’s built-in mirroring system if it has one.
Is there any other way to watch ITVX content on PS5?
If you don’t want to screen mirror ITVX to your PS5 and you’re looking for another way to check out the streaming service, then your only other option is to pick up an Amazon Prime subscription.
While you won’t get access to ITVX’s full range of content via Prime, you will be able to watch a series of catch-up episodes and other TV shows, so this is the best way to access ITV without using the dedicated ITVX app.
Other services, such as Now TV and Sky Go, offer the chance to check out ITV channels if you sign up for a subscription, so make sure to look into those if you’re after alternative ways to watch ITV content.
Why can’t you get ITVX on PS5?
According to the official ITVX help channel, ITVX will “hopefully” be available for PS5 sometime in the future, so it looks like even official ITV support personnel aren’t aware of why the app isn’t available on PS5.
Given that you can download and use ITVX on Xbox consoles, we can’t imagine that ITVX isn’t available on PS5 because the app’s developers don’t want to make it accessible on gaming architecture.
It could be that ITV has data showing that users don’t tend to access streaming services on consoles, so the company hasn’t deemed it worth the time or effort to create an ITVX app for PS5 on top of the already-existing Xbox apps.
There could also be some other reason, perhaps involving behind-the-scenes disagreements, that has led to ITVX being unavailable on PS5.
Without any kind of official announcement, we’ll never know, but it could be that ITV and Sony are working on bringing the ITVX experience to PS5. Let’s hope that we hear something along these lines in the future!
Conclusion
Well, there you have it: ITVX is currently unavailable on PS5 without using some kind of third-party screen mirroring app, which, for the reasons we’ve already discussed, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend (although you are free to give it a try yourself, of course).
We’re hoping the situation with ITVX on PS5 changes at some point in the future, because we’d love to access our favourite ITV content on our PS5s, but right now, you’re going to have to look elsewhere for your TOWIE fix.
