If you managed to nab yourself one of these impressive consoles, you might have realised that there have been a lot of changes made since the PS4 console was released. With a completely different design, faster processor and new system, you might find yourself getting a bit lost.

Navigating your way through the new PS5 and all the games launched alongside it is one thing, but now that it’s backwards compatible you have to really know how to find your way around bot the PS4 and PS5. Sounds easy but there are a few unspoken rules and tricks you should learn about.

We’re here to help you get more familiar with your console in order to experience the PS5 at its best and truly appreciate the ground-breaking technology on offer. Here a few tips and tricks to help you familiarise yourself with your console;

Turning it off

Yes, we’re being dead serious. You may laugh when reading about our first tip but it isn’t the most simple thing to figure out at first and we’ll save you the 10 min of trying to figure it out by explaining it to you right now. The first step is to press the PlayStation button in the middle of the console, don’t hold it down. Then you’ll see the menu appear and at the bottom right of the screen you’ll see the power icon.

Alternatively, you can use the physical power button on the console which can be located at the bottom when sat vertically and on the far left when sat horizontally.

Transferring files and games from your PS4

If you’ve gone for the upgrade you won’t want to lose any of your files, progress or games saved on your PS4, so you’ll need to learn how to transfer it all to your PS5. You will have the option of doing this during setup, but you can skip it and come back later.

Start by having both consoles plugged in next to each other, switched on and connected to an ethernet cable connecting them – this is faster than using Wi-Fi.

Then you’ll need to go to Settings on the PS5, click on System > System Software. Choose Data Transfer, Continue and pick your PS4. When Prepare for Data Transfer notification appears, you’ll need to hold down the power button on the PS4 for a few seconds until it beeps. Select the files you’d like to transfer and click Start transfer.

Are you playing the PS5 version of the game?

This is where it can get a little confusing. Having PS4 games available on your PS5 can be great but you need to make sure you’re playing the version that has been specially enhanced for the newer consoles. Read the game title when on the home screen and make sure it says PS5 next to it and not PS4. For a simpler way, go to your Game Library, then filter your games by Platform.

Optimizing your controller

You must learn to take advantage of the mazing technology behind the DualSense controller. With vibrations that adapt to whichever weapon you are working with; the controller helps create a fully immersive experience and enhance your gameplay.

The controller comes with pre-set vibration settings but if that’s not for you, you can alter the intensity of the vibration easily. Simply open up Settings > Accessories > Controllers. You can use the DualShock 4 controllers from the PS4 and you’ll find setting to reduce the brightness of the indicators on the controller.

3D Audio

For the ultimate immersive experience, using a pair of headphones or earphones is vital. Game developers use 3D audio to enhance the experience and create a fully immersive gameplay. 3D audio is on automatically so all you need to do is plug in your headphones and calibrate the sound via your settings page.

Controlling your PS5 remotely

PlayStation recently updated their app that is available on both iOS and android. The mobile app gives you access to your profile, chats, latest news and allows you to make purchases from the PlayStation store. You can install updates for you PS5 remotely, organise your storage usage and launch games quickly and pain-free.

The new PS5 is far superior to any console we’ve seen from PlayStation before and has the ability to create immersive, entertaining and mind-blowing experiences – provided you know how to use it and unleash its full potential.
