The PlayStation 5 controller is capable of many things that can enhance a player’s experience with some of the greatest games ever created. One of these features is controller vibration. This feature allows your device to vibrate if the developer implemented it during crucial parts of the game. It’s a feature that’s been around throughout console generations, and doesn’t look to be going away anytime soon. So, here is how to fix PS5 controller vibration issues should you ever have them.
Fixing PS5 Controller Vibration Issues
First, how do you know your PS5 controller is having issues? Well, here is a list of various controller issues that a user can experience:
- Zero or weak vibration.
- Vibration stopped after a system update.
- Vibration only works in select games.
- Vibration happens at random.
If you’re experiencing any of the above, then check out the fixes to get you back up and enjoying your favorite games. Please note that none of the following fixes involve opening up and repairing the inside of the controller.
Check if the Game Supports Vibration
Just because the controller can vibrate doesn’t mean that all games utilize the feature. Typically, to check if the game has vibration features, you can:
- Head into the game’s menu.
- Check if there are any controller settings.
- Check to see if there are any vibration settings.
If these settings aren’t available, then the feature is likely not in that game.
Check Controller Settings
There is an actual vibration feature you can toggle, so check out these instructions if you think that might be the issue:
- Navigate over to the Settings.
- Head into the Accessories tab.
- There, select the Controllers option.
- Find the Biration Intensity option and toggle it based on your preference.
Reset Controller
There is always the chance that your PS5 controller is not working because it needs to be updated. To restore your controller to it’s default settings, make sure you have something thin, like a paperclip or a pin. Then, follow these instructions:
- Turn off your PS5.
- Turn the controller around and insert the paperclip or pin into the small hole to the right of the Sony logo.
- Press and hold the pin onto the reset button for five seconds.
- When finished, the controller will light up briefly, allowing you to connect it to your console once again via a USB cable.
Update PS5 and Controller
If you are still faced with this issue, then try updated the console as a whole. Follow these instructions to do so:
- Navigate to the Settings, followed by System, and System Software Update and Settings.
- Select Update System Software.
You’ll then be notified whether or not there is an update. If there isn’t then try updating your controller using the following instructions:
- Instead of going into the System, like above, go to Accessories, followed by Controllers
- Select the Update Controller Software option.
You’ll also be notified of whether or not there is an update.
Test Controller on Another PS5
Before you lose all hope and buy another controller, try testing your controller on someone else’s console. If the controller’s vibration features still don’t work after all that, then it’s likely a nonworking controller.
