FIFA named Stats Perform its first ever official global distributor of betting data in January, it was a landmark deal running through 2029 that covers every match of this year’s 48 team World Cup, all 104 of them, plus the Women’s World Cup in Brazil the following year.
That is a different kind of FIFA news to the one most football fans have been following. EA Sports FC 26 remains the game most fans are playing week to week, its player ratings updated every few weeks, while the real betting numbers behind those same fixtures move somewhere else entirely.
Live Data Replaces a Studio’s Best Guess
Stats Perform’s Opta and RunningBall teams collect that data from inside the stadium while a match is still being played, then distribute it straight to licensed sportsbooks for pricing, trading and settling in play markets.
That is close to the opposite of how a football game handles a player rating. FC 26 came out on September 26 last year and sold 12 million copies by the end of October, the best selling game of 2025 in 16 of 17 European markets. Every one of those ratings was a decision made by a person at a games studio months before the season started, not a number pulled from a live betting feed.
Squad Knowledge Does Not Buy You an Edge
Spend a season in Ultimate Team and you’ll have read more football stats than most fans read in a year, chemistry links, work rates, corner success rates the Authentic preset is tuned to mirror. None of it costs anything to try, and no sportsbook has asked for a deposit by the time you’ve clocked a hundred hours.
Betting sites work the other way round, usually wanting money down before showing their full hand, though roundups of the free betting benefits on offer set out which operators let you look first and what the terms cost later.
Follow games closely enough and you can name a full squad from memory, know a winger’s pace rating to the decimal point. That tells you how he behaves in Ultimate Team. It says nothing about the odds a sportsbook is quoting on his next ninety minutes, since form moves week to week and a rating updates on a far slower clock.
A Different FIFA Game Adds to the Confusion
After FIFA and EA split in 2023, the governing body spent the years after that licensing its name to smaller titles instead. FIFA Rivals on mobile came from Mythical Games and FIFA Heroes came from ENVER, neither one a simulation serious enough to inform a betting slip.
An official FIFA football game returns in summer 2026, made by a Los Angeles studio called Delphi Interactive and released through Netflix, built around players feeling the magic of football on a TV with a phone as the controller rather than chasing realistic betting markets. EA’s version, with its 48-team international tournament mode and Authentic preset, remains the one chasing that realism, and even that realism is a design target rather than a measurement.
The Data Deal Still Has a Limit
Whether the Stats Perform pipeline helps a bettor in a bigger way than any game ever could depends on one distinction. Official data removes doubt about which numbers a sportsbook is using, but it still describes what happened on the pitch rather than what a manager plans to do next.
Reading a lineup correctly before kick off remains a different skill from trusting the feed once the whistle blows, and no partnership, however official, does that reading for you. Play the games for football. Treat the betting numbers, official source or not, as a separate thing that still has to be checked on its own.
