In this article, we will list every free PS5 and PS4 VR game available via PS Plus, plus three that are entirely free with no strings attached. You will still need to own a PS VR set, but there’s no need to worry as long as you own one of those two consoles. The five categories are game title, file size, release date, platform and a brief description telling you what the game is about.
In case you’re unaware, PS VR is a virtual reality headset developed by Sony. After years of immersive video games, VR is often thought of as the final frontier for the medium, which is honestly pretty cool.
As for the history, Sony’s interest in virtual reality dates all the way back to the 1990s, when the first commercial release of a head display unit, known as Glasstron, was released in 1997. This tech would seem to be a work in progress for PlayStation until the code name Morpheus was used for what eventually became the PS VR during early development. Project Morpheus was first announced at the Game Developers Conference in 2014, and the following year, it was announced it would have the name we know of today. Then, on October 13, 2016, Sony released the PS VR with many launch games, and the headset is still around today. The PlayStation VR2 has since succeeded it.
But what if you’re unsure of all this free game and PS Plus talk? So, in short, PS Plus is a subscription service. You pay a monthly fee to one of three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential is the base tier, while Premium includes the most stuff. It really depends on what you’re looking for and how much you’re willing to pay, but if you just want to play online with your friends, then go for Essential. Obviously, you won’t get all the benefits the service has to offer, but hey, that’s up to you.
But if you do want those free games, let’s talk. Because who doesn’t want free stuff? From retro PS3 titles to some of the coolest VR experiences you can find, it’s so worth it. Premium is a bit more costly, but considering everything included, we’d say it’s worth the few extra bucks. A few titles will be added to the service every month at no extra cost. It’s also a great way to sample some immersive or spooky games without buying them individually. Say you want to try Dreams for the first time but don’t have the cash to buy it at a store.
Well, subscribe to PS Plus, and it’s on your home screen, no questions asked. It’s so convenient. Hopefully, this all makes a bit more sense now. But, just so you know, you will have to subscribe to the Premium tier to gain access to these VR games at no extra cost. You can still buy them individually on the PSN store, of course, but if you want a wide variety of them at no additional cost, you must subscribe to the service.
