The PS5 is coming up fast. With it expected to come out nid-2020, it wouldn’t be right to not assume there are games in development for the next console. There are games that are expected to come out for the PS5 along with the PS4, and there are games that have been announced for the next generation. Knowing what games will be coming along will help gamers know what to expect when buying a PS5. Here are a few games that are expected to come out on the PS5.
Grand Theft Auto 6
Rockstar has had immense success with Grand Theft Auto IV, they’ve managed to deliver continuous updates, helping to make the game never feel familiar. However, as technology advances Rockstar are sure to take their success and make it somewhat greater. You can almost feel as though Rockstar are awaiting on the PS5 before they reveal their big announcement.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Although the latest entry in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series will come out for the PS4, the remake is also being developed for the PS5. Yosuke Matsuda revealed in an interview that it was being made for both generations of PlayStation. That’s understandable considering the story is coming out in chapters. By the time the second chapter comes out, the PS5 will be in the forefront of gamers minds. The game is a remake of a 90’s classic and one of the best Final Fantasy games out there. Play as Cloud as he attempts to save the planet from destruction with his group of friends.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
The adventure game was announced by Daedalic Entertainment to be coming out in 2021. It was stated that the game will launch on “all relevant platforms.” The PS5 will be out by then, so it’s not a long stretch to think it will be released on the console. The game follows Lord of the Rings’ Gollum before the original story. It will be narrative-driven and his split personality plays a large part in how gamers will interact with the world. In an interview with PC Gamer, Daedalic CEO Carsten Fichtelmann explains. “You’ll come to decisions you have to make, and you’ll have the two voices talking to you,” says Fichtelmann. “He may change his mind, and this is a clue about how it will play.”
Cyberpunk 2077
The dystopian cyberpunk game is expected to come out on the PS5. It is being developed with the future consoles in mind and it should be able to work with the PS5’s technology. CD Projekt Red president Adam Kicinski talked about this in an interview with VG247. “Technology-wise, Cyberpunk is very advanced,” says Kicinski. “Our technology is ready to interface with future generations.” The game is meant to come out in 2020, the same year as the PS5, so it seems like it’ll be available on that console.
The Last of Us: Part 2
There’s not a lot of information on this game, but Sony exclusive games with no definitive release dates are likely to be released on the PS5. The first game won multiple awards and received critical acclaim, so the anticipated sequel should be put on the new console to entice gamers. Main characters Ellie and Joel return years into the future as they continue to survive in an apocalyptic world.
Death Stranding
Hideo Kojima returns in this mysterious game staring Norman Reedus. There’s not a lot that’s known about this game, except that it has been announced for the PS4. But it’s expected to also come out on the next generation console. Based on the game’s production cycle, it seems possible. And it has also been referenced in interviews with the game’s staff. Everyone will just have to wait and see.
Ghost of Tsushima
Similar to Death Stranding, this game has been announced for the PS4 but its production cycle makes it seem like it will also release on the PS5. Sucker Punch’s action-adventure game takes place in 1274 where samurai roamed the lands and defended Japan. When the Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, step into the shoes of one of the last samurais to defeat the all-encompassing threat.
Project Awakening
This game is a little bit of a mystery, as it has been announced but with no platforms specified. It’s expected to come out for the PS5, but with how little is known it’s a large stretch. If the game does come out for the next-gen, publisher Cygames promises 12-player co-op and an open world to explore. If all that is included, it’s sure to be an interesting title for whatever console it releases on.
