How to enable 120 fps on PS5

The newest generation of PlayStation consoles, the PS5, offers a variety of performance options to enhance immersion and gameplay. For the first time, the PS5 comes with a 120 Hz mode, which significantly improves smoothness and allows players to react to their surroundings much faster. However, this feature doesn’t work with its entire library; the PS4 versions and poorly optimised games, unfortunately, only run at 30/60 FPS. Nearly all new-gen games support 120 Hz mode on PlayStation 5, and if you’re wondering how to activate this setting on your console, this guide will help you. Here is how to enable 120 FPS on PS5.

Selecting 120Hz via PS5 Settings

Screen and Video Settings

Having 120 FPS on a crisp TV or monitor display is a must-have for a PS5 user. However, before you can enable this mode, ensure that the screen supports 120 Hz in the first place, as the setting entirely relies on your display. If you’re unsure about this feature, inspect the display’s model through its official website.

To enable 120 FPS on the PlayStation 5, press the triangle button on the home screen to access the console settings. Additionally, scroll down and head into the “Screen and Video” section. At the bottom, you will find “120Hz Output” and set it to automatic. If the screen supports 120 Hz, the console will automatically detect it and set its framerate.

Still, it depends on the game you’re playing. Many PlayStation 5 games don’t support 120 FPS natively, and it must be enabled in the game’s settings.
