Originally released on September 23, 2023, Party Animals is a multiplayer physics-based party video game developed by Recreate Games and published by Source Technology. The game is currently viewable on the PSN store, but its release date is listed as “to be determined,” with no confirmed launch date at the time of writing.
But with all that out of the way, let’s get into what you can expect from this cute and snout-filled party brawler whenever it does become available on PS5.
What Is Party Animals About?
First of all, Party Animals is all about cute and cuddly characters, so players can expect to play as animals like puppies, kittens, ducks, and bunnies, among many others. The goal is to knock each other out and be the last one standing. These knocks outs are completed by headbutting, kicking, or tossing an opponent off the ring. There is also an assortment of weapons, including a lollipop, a taser, and even a crossbow.
All these punches and weapons of mass destruction help players in their quest to deal enough damage to someone else to force them to become unavailable for a certain time. In most cases, they will return unless the losing player is thrown off the map or into various hazards. So, the brawling is in the name, ya know?
Oh, and according to the PSN listing, Party Animals supports the vibration function and trigger effects made possible via the Dualsense Controller.
How Many Maps and Characters Are There?
As for the number of characters and maps, Party Animals has a base pool of 45 playable fuzzballs from which players can choose. For example, Barbie the Gorilla and Bacon the Pig incorporate dark humour into the game so players can expect lots of raunchy humour in this fun little romp. There are also 23 maps across three game modes, which include Last Stand, Team Score, and the Lab.
Last Stand is a battle royale-type mode; Team Score is for playing as part of a team, and Arcade is a collection of various maps, but due to them not belonging to the previous two modes, it’s best to learn them yourself.
Some of those locations are Blizzard Warning, which is a Last Stand map where players must fight in freezing temperatures next to campfires and Black Hole, which is another Last Stand map players that players must fight beside a black hole generator in while trying to avoid heavy obstacles before being sucked in.
The lobby owner can change the maps or team during a match without exiting the game. It also supports up to eight players. However, it’s worth noting that you need an online connection to play with your buddies, but that’s not really a big deal because doing this is super simple. All you have to do is choose a custom game and set a password.
That’s pretty much it, though. Party Animals is an incredibly fun multiplayer game to play with your friends on a Saturday night. It’s cute; it’s cuddly and frantic, which is all you really need in a game like this. While there is still no word on when it will become available on PS5, hopefully, we’ve done a good enough job preparing you for when that does happen.
