There’s probably nothing more frustrating for a gamer than experiencing issues with your controller while playing your favorite game. You might notice your player character responding with a delay or find that switching between menus is uncharacteristically slow. Whatever the situation, realizing that your PS5 controller has lag issues is the worst experience.
Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to try and fix this before resorting to buying a brand-new controller. All I ask is that you be patient while going through these instructions. Lag can be frustrating, but the best way to go about fixing it is to have a calm mind.
How to Reduce PS5 Controller Lag
To reduce controller lag on the PS5, I recommend following these steps after turning your console on:
- Go into the Settings option on the top, right-hand corner of the console’s menu.
- In the new window, scroll down to Screen and Video and select it.
- Make sure you stay in the Video Output menu and scroll down to the ALLM option.
- If it isn’t already, toggle this to Automatic.
If the above doesn’t work, then I also recommend following these steps:
- Instead of selecting Screen and Video, select the Accessories option in the Settings menu.
- Scroll to the Controller (General) option.
- Scroll to DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software and ensure it is up to date.
If you don’t mind using a wired PS5 controller or a temporary fix, I also recommend switching the Communication Method of your controller to Use a USB Cable. This would require your controller to constantly be connected to the console, but at least you won’t have to worry about input lag!
Lastly, check to see if your online connection status is okay. If you’re playing an online game, then having a bad internet connection might also contribute to input lag on your controller.
