The God of War series has historically always focused on one mythology. The first couple of games were purely focused on Greek mythology, while the recent two were focused on Norse mythology. However, it seems like players will be seeing all sorts of gods in God of War Laufey.
While the sky is the limit here, there are a couple of gods who fans would love to see. From the return of some of Kratos’ previous enemies to new gods who could potentially appear for the first time, here are the gods we want to see in God of War Laufey.
Ares

Those who played the original God of War games will know that Ares was the one to start it all. He’s the one to trick Kratos into killing his first wife and daughter, so it would be somewhat poetic to see the second wife of Kratos take revenge for them.
Not to mention, there’s a good chance that Kratos may have told his story to Faye. If so, that would mean that Faye would instantly recognize the god who set her husband’s original tragedy in motion. There may be some interesting themes involved here, such as Ares asking Faye whether Kratos would have even gone to her homeland if Ares hadn’t done what he did.
Athena

Athena was one of the only people to seemingly assist Kratos in the original trilogy. However, their relationship ended on a less-than-happy note. God of War 3 ended on a cliffhanger, showcasing Athena still roaming the world, though she was technically still dead. Because of this, there’s a good chance that Faye may come across her in the Graveyard of the Gods.
The most interesting thing to come out of involving Athena in God of War Laufey would be fans finally learning what Athena really thinks of Kratos. Since the original trilogy was somewhat ambiguous, this would be the perfect way to finally properly wrap up the original trilogy.
Zeus

While some fans may forget, Zeus is actually Faye’s father-in-law and the most important god from the original trilogy. Kratos and Zeus had one of the most personal conflicts in the series, and seeing Zeus speak with Faye would give the whole thing an entirely new perspective that hasn’t ever been seen.
Not to mention, Zeus originally saw Kratos as a monster because of the evilness that Pandora’s Box brought onto the gods. It would be interesting if Zeus, in his dead state, saw Kratos in a different light. Without the whole corruption aspect, there’s a decent chance that Zeus may actually understand why Kratos did what he did.
Anubis

Anubis would be the first entry from this list who hasn’t appeared in the God of War franchise yet. While he isn’t the God of War or anything of the like, this god’s status as the God of Death could make him perfect for the Everywhen. Not to mention, Anubis could be the god who helped Kratos see the vision of Faye in God of War Ragnarok in the first place.
Sekhmet is confirmed to be in the game, and Anubis is directly related to Sekhmet. Because of this, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Anubis could appear in the game, especially since there wouldn’t be any additional warrior deity.
The Morrigan

This one is a bit of a curveball, but introducing the Morrigan would be the best way for Santa Monica to add Celtic mythology to the mix. Since she aligns with war, fate, prophecy, and death, it may make sense to have her be a different interpretation of a war deity. Faye would also see that being a God of War doesn’t necessarily mean that you must be a battle-crazed warrior.
It’s also important to keep in mind that The Morrigan aligns with the tone of God of War. The association with death, in particular, could be the highlight that makes her a key part of the in-game lore.
