The PS4 and PS5 have no shortage of variety when it comes to games, with both consoles having a plethora of titles from various genres. Regardless of whether you like racing games, fighting, or any other genre, you will easily be able to get your hands on some of the best games on the two consoles.

A significant advantage of PlayStation games is that some of the best titles are purchasable at a relatively low cost. This can be due to the game being a little older, or finding a good sale where the game is priced significantly lower than it should be. Here are 10 of the best cheap PS4 and PS5 games to check out.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (Game of the Year Edition)

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is one of the best and budget-friendly PlayStation games that you can buy, especially if you can snag it at a sale and get it even cheaper. Using the same combat mechanics as the Batman Arkham games, Monolith Productions’ The Lord of the Rings game popularized the nemesis mechanic that multiple players still consider to be one of the most unique features in any game.

The GOTY edition contains all the DLCs, which makes the game significantly longer and increases its value for money. The game honors the source material by ensuring fans, new and old, are invested in the story of Talion as he conquers the minds of Orcs and navigates the trenches of betrayal. While it’s a little dated now, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is still one of the best cheap PS4 and PS5 games out there.

What Remains of Edith Finch

What Remains of Edith Finch is a relatively shorter game relative to the others on this list, but that doesn’t make it any less impactful. The game has a heavy focus on narrative suspense, which increases the overall engagement. Countless players found themselves invested in this mystery game, collecting clues and trying to figure out what happened to those who lived in the estate that the player character inherited.

This game is for those who want to immerse themselves in a story with twists, turns, and suspense, and get a feeling of fulfillment once they complete it. What Remains of Edith Finch doesn’t have unique mechanics and just edges on the horror genre, but you’ll keep part of it with you after finishing it.

Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise

Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise is developed by the same studio as the Yakuza series, and that’s perfectly reflected in the gameplay. Having the same beat-em-up combat as traditional Yakuza games and spinoff Like a Dragon games, players can button mash their way to victory or utilize a plethora of excellent moves taken straight out of the manga and anime of the same name.

Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise has an engaging story with no shortage of content. It features multiple mini-games, side quests, and opportunities to find adventure outside of the main story. On sale, the game is frequently available for a low price and is a must-buy at the time, especially for those who love the source material or the Like a Dragon games.

OlliOlli World

While some games use graphics and other theatrics to captivate players, others do so by oozing personality. OlliOlli World falls into the latter category, with its beautifully vibrant art style and memorable characters that all differ from each other. At its core, OlliOlli World is a skateboarding platformer, but those who play it will realize it’s so much more.

OlliOlli World offers players a sense of accomplishment with the way the challenges are set up, and every challenge rewards players with the patience and skill to complete it. With a variety of customization, such as levels and characters, to allow players to experiment more freely, it’s very easy for players to lose themselves in the fantastical world of Radlandia. OlliOlli World is purchasable at 75% of the price during sales, and is one of the best cheap PS4 and PS5 games out there.

Mad Max

Mad Max features a post-apocalyptic open world that players can explore to realize that it looks like it came straight out of the movies. Like the source material, there’s a heavy emphasis on car-based combat, with players having various options to customize their ride, whether by changing how it looks or adding more dangerous weaponry to it. This doesn’t mean players are always inside their car, since it also features the traditional WB Games counter-based combat.

The game has decent content, with the main story being approximately 20 hours long and full completion taking approximately 60 hours. With a large open world to explore, a story that gets the job done, and extremely satisfying combat, those who love the Batman Arkham games or are fans of the Mad Max franchise should definitely give Mad Max a shot. The game is already fairly cheap, and sales can make the price go even lower.

My Friend Pedro

If you’re someone who misses the traditional run-and-gun genre of video games, then My Friend Pedro is a must-try. Despite being shorter than most other games on this list, My Friend Pedro shines thanks to its fast-paced and addictive gameplay that has players constantly on the move and shooting enemies with long-range weapons.

The game features acrobatic maneuvers, slow-motion gunplay, and parkour that make it different from other games in the genre. It also features score-based challenges and leaderboard rankings, which increase the replayability. While the action sequences of the game are over-the-top, they’re still visually pleasing, ensuring the game remains in your mind even years after completion.

Cat Quest 2

Cat Quest 2 takes what the original made and expands on it by introducing new abilities, weapons, and even another character. This short and cute RPG answers the question of what would happen if cats went to war against dogs in a fantasy world that only featured these two animals. One look at the art style will likely be enough for most cat lovers to want to get the game instantly, and it helps that getting the platinum for Cat Quest 2 isn’t too hard, and the game also features co-op.

The game’s story is simple but engaging and mysterious, with you finding various secrets along the way. Cat Quest 2 also features simple but addictive combat that really shines when players are against bosses, including “Cathulhu.” The price of the game is reasonable, but you should be able to find an even better deal during sales.

Furi

Furi is an interesting short game that offers significantly challenging gameplay. The game has massive potential for speedrunning, and drastically difficult boss fights increase the game’s replayability. Pair that with the fact that completing the game once unlocks a whole new way of playing the game, and you can easily find yourself finishing Furi multiple times.

Intense and fast-paced combat is the bread and butter of the game, and players get proper rewards for actually mastering the mechanics. The twin-stick gameplay, which features hack and slash mechanics combined with run and gun goodness, makes Furi a joy for those craving something they can jump into and have a good time. The price of the game isn’t too steep, even if you buy it without a sale, but you may be able to find a better deal by looking.

Hades

Hades’ story is deeply rooted in Greek Mythology, but the roguelike offers a fresh and engaging perspective. Everything, ranging from Hades’ soundtrack to its many godly boons, makes the game fun and challenging for players. Pair that with the many different weapons Zagreus can use and the known mythological bosses that players can go up against, and Hades is a must-buy for fans of roguelikes and Greek Mythology.

There is no shortage of content in Hades, with the playtime easily reaching 100s of hours for players. Completing just one run isn’t the end of the game, since the story is longer and more engaging than most likely assume when they start. What starts as Zagreus, the God of the Underworld, wanting to escape his father’s domain to reach the surface world and find his mother, quickly becomes the journey of a lifetime, as the player character soon discovers that things aren’t what they seem. Hades is easily one of the best cheap PS4 and PS5 games, especially for the content and experience it delivers.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, in itself, offers massive gameplay with a significant amount of action. Despite being the Game of the Year for 2015, this decade-old game still looks as good as it did before, with every edge of the massive open world oozing with fantastical goodness. The best thing is that players don’t even have to know about The Witcher to enjoy The Witcher 3, though it certainly helps.

While the base game is good enough, the Complete Edition is what players want to get. The Witcher 3 has some of the best DLC content in any game, with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and the best thing is that players can grab it for a relatively low price. If value for money is what you’re looking for, then you’ll struggle to find anything even remotely close to The Witcher 3’s complete edition, making it one of the best cheap PS4 and PS5 games.
