The day has finally come that an MGS4 remaster is coming to newer consoles. After 18 long years, the iconic entry in the Metal Gear Solid series is leaving its jail on the PS3. With the game heading to PC, Switch, and even Xbox, there is plenty of excitement in the air. Many players around the world get to experience one of Solid Snake’s best missions on various platforms. But with the announcement comes the question of just what consoles players can expect the MGS4 remaster to come to. With exclusives still being a thing in 2026, with such cases like Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, will MGS4 be on modern consoles? Or can the past generation of consoles, specifically the PS4, get to enjoy the MGS4 remaster as well?
Will the MGS4 Remaster Be On PS4?
Shockingly, the MGS4 remaster is not heading to the PS4 when it launches on August 27th, 2026. In fact, the MGS Master Collection Volume 2 is only heading to one past-generation console: the Nintendo Switch. Therefore, players on PS4 and Xbox One are not going to be able to play Metal Gear Solid 4 or Peace Walker. The decision is odd considering the game is going to be heading to the original Switch as well as the Switch 2. But neither PlayStation nor Xbox consoles of that same generation get the same treatment.
There is the possibility that the latest Master Collection could make its way to the PlayStation 4 in the future. However, for now, it’s unlikely due to the announcement of which consoles it will be on at launch. Additionally, it seems as if Konami may be slowly winding down support for games on both the PS4 and Xbox One. While we don’t have a definite answer yet, not having this collection on them seems to be a possible indication of it.

What MGS Games Can You Play On PS4?
Currently, the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1, Ground Zeroes, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain are on PS4. Therefore, PS4 players get to enjoy over seven titles within the franchise without needing to play on PC or upgrade to a PS5. Allowing you to experience a good bulk of the series on the past console. If you are curious about the exact titles you can play, they are listed below:
- Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1
- Metal Gear
- Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
- Metal Gear Solid
- Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
- Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
- Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
It’s a great selection of titles for PS4 players to enjoy if they haven’t already. Each of them being remasters from consoles like the MSX and PS2. Unfortunately, the PS4 doesn’t get to experience the MGS4 remaster. But, there are still some various options you can enjoy from the titles above. With the Metal Gear Solid series having such a deep narrative, the games on PS4 at least can provide plenty to experience. And who knows, maybe the latest additions will come to PS4 later on.
