Metal Gear Solid is no stranger to the PS5, as some players may think. A title like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater being released on this generation of PlayStation consoles shows as much. It’s one of the most popular and iconic game series in the world and one many should experience. However, with many of the games being more on the classic or retro side, it can be tricky to figure out which ones you can play. Over the years, though, Konami continues to show that it wants players to experience the hits. If you are newer to the series and want to dive in, we highlight which games in the series are on PS5. 1. Metal Gear/Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake

Players take on the role of Solid Snake in a mission to infiltrate the military compound known as Outer Heaven. There, he must work to thwart the plans to have the Metal Gear become active and wage war. Furthermore, he needs to rescue the missing agent known as Gray Fox at the location. When it comes to the second Metal Gear title, Solid Snake returns, and this time he heads to Zanzibar Land to stop nuclear plans from becoming real. Both games allow players to see the first roots of the series and critical points in the game’s story.
2. Metal Gear Solid

The iconic first entry on the PlayStation as players head to Shadow Moses Island. There, you undergo a mission to take down rogue members of his old FOXHOUND unit. This venture into the 3D world of gaming brought on incredible gameplay mechanics and boss fights. All while giving players a world of action-espionage to get enthralled in. The game takes you to an iconic location, and the Psycho Mantis fight being involved is just some of what makes this entry great.
3. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Players take on the role of both Solid Snake and Raiden across New York and the Big Shell complex. The second installment in the “Solid” series of games has players fighting against a terrorist group known as the Sons of Liberty. To date, the game has amazing but terrifying comparisons with modern life. Additionally, the twists and turns throughout the story have it stand out for fans as one of the strongest games ever made.
4. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
- Available on the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1 or separately.

Considered to be not just the best MGS game but one of the greatest PS2 games ever. Snake Eater takes players to the 1960’s era of the Cold War, where you play as Naked Snake. Sent behind enemy lines, you must take down your mentor who betrayed the US and aims to start a war along with separatist military leader, Colonel Volgin. The game features an incredible opening intro and deep storytelling that launched the series into gaming immortality.
5. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
- Available to purchase physically or on the PlayStation Store.

A remake of Snake Eater, players can experience a modernized version of the series’ most popular entry. The entire game was rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, including updated graphics, cutscenes, and gameplay. Players can even play through the game with modern controls and visuals akin to MGS V. If you want to experience the game in its best format, Delta provides the optimal experience for it.
6. Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience
- Available physically or on the PlayStation Store.

Combining both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, MGSV tells of Big Boss. Players will step into the role during the 1980’s as they work to form the mercenary group, Diamond Dogs. You explore massive open maps in Afghanistan and Angola-Zaire as you work to build a group of strong warriors. You are also working to stop XOF from unleashing a new kind of terror on the world. When it comes to Ground Zeroes, it serves as a prequel to MGS V. Players get to experience the opening setting for the game as you infiltrate a small military island base to rescue an old ally.
All Upcoming Metal Gear Solid Games Coming to PS5
1. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
- Available in the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 or separately (Release Date: August 27, 2026).

Originally developed for the PSP, Peace Walker sets players up as Big Boss in 1970’s Costa Rica. The iconic warrior works to build the military group, Militaires Sans Frontières, and take on contracts for profit. The game came with two modes for players to enjoy: Missions and Mother Base. So if you get tired of working through the story, you can focus on making your base stronger. And in turn, bringing morale up for your unit. If you are looking to dive into The Phantom Pain, be sure to experience Peace Walker first!
2. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
- Available in the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 or separately (Release Date: August 27, 2026).

Confined to the PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots finally makes its way to PS5. Players step into the shoes of Old Snake as he fights his brother across various battlefields worldwide. All to ensure the plans of Liquid, consolidating all of the world’s PMC into a massive army, are stopped. Both characters, new and old, appear in what is Snake’s final mission and one with incredible action from start to finish. If you haven’t gotten to experience the game yet, it’s one of the greatest PS3 games made.
Unfortunately, though, fans who want to experience Metal Gear Rising are out of luck currently. Whether or not this is bound to change in the future remains uncertain. However, there is a great selection of Metal Gear Solid games on the PS5 that players get to enjoy. And with Metal Gear Solid 4 breaking out of PS3 jail after 18 years, it’s a great time to be a fan of the series. Or, just starting to get into it if you haven’t already.
