Sony boasts titles across multiple genres on its crown jewel, the PlayStation 5. These range from some of the best fighting games to FPS, and everything in between. The PS5 is one of the leading consoles on the market, which makes it lucrative for developers to work on, including those who develop anime-style games.

Similar to other genres, anime-style games also have elements that can either make them or break them. The top 10 best anime-style games on the PS5 either have a great story, graphics, or some other element that makes them stand out from other titles.

Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 is a great game by itself, with an immersive story, exciting combat, and the usual social interactions that make the series great. Royal builds on the original by bringing in new characters, expanding the story, and otherwise improving a great game.

Persona 5 Royal is a visual masterpiece with a mesmerizing soundtrack and anime-style cutscenes that fans can appreciate. The characters are well developed, and the grappling hook mechanism that Royal adds makes stealth significantly better.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero brings with it the famous roster of the series, with more than 180 playable characters. The game is also the first in the series to use Unreal Engine 5, which makes it visually breathtaking.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero also features adaptive soundtracks, which change based on enemies’ proximity and other elements. The game is also stacked with content, and players can easily immerse themselves in it fully. While the old Budokai Tenkaichi series that countless Dragon Ball fans grew up with remained dormant for years, Sparking Zero ensures the same charm and magic is enjoyable on modern consoles.

Attack on Titan 2

Attack on Titan 2 makes the anime’s story more immersive by putting the player into the shoes of a recruit who goes through all the events of the anime and manga series. That’s not all, as you can interact and build relationships with the popular characters of the anime. This game may be one of the most immersive anime-style games solely based on how it handles the unique dynamics of the characters.

The game also features The Final Battle expansion, which adds more content and expands the story to cover the anime’s third season. This brings loads of new characters, missions, and playable titans, making the game even better. If you ever imagined how it would feel to swing around as an Attack on Titan character, then this is the game you should add to your wishlist.

Zenless Zone Zero

Zenless Zone Zero features an engaging story and dynamic characters that make the game both immersive and memorable for fans. The game brings a rewarding combat system, but progression is more dependent on relationships than on fighting. Of course, it features the same gacha system that games like Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail have, which isn’t surprising, considering they’re all made by the same developer.

ZZZ regularly receives new updates that bring new characters, events, and other elements that keep players hooked. The developer has also made the game less grindy compared to other gacha games, which is a big plus. Of course, Zenless Zone Zero’s unique charm and jazzy take on an otherwise oversaturated genre ensure it can stand on its own two feet.

SCARLET NEXUS

Scarlet Nexus has a unique combat system that combines melee attacks with telekinetic abilities. This fighting style itself is reminiscent of many anime, and the game doesn’t disappoint with how engaging the combat is. While it isn’t exactly a soulslike game, some players may find that it has some noticeable elements from that genre.

Scarlet Nexus features a rather divisive storyline, but overall, the narrative has enough twists and turns to keep players glued. The game’s world and characters are built in an aesthetically pleasing way that looks beautiful on the PS5. While there are some generic anime tropes that fans can expect from Scarlet Nexus, the game doesn’t lean on them too much.

Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections

Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections features a roster of more than 130 characters, including Ashura and Indra Otsutsuki. The game also has an extensive story mode that allows players to experience the lives of both Naruto and Sasuke, expanding on what made the Ultimate Ninja Storm series so beloved.

The game also includes significant character customization and has upgraded combat mechanics that take into account PS5 specs. There is also the option to play in online modes or offline, depending on personal preference. While some believe that another entry in the Storm series was unnecessary, the completely original story arc that features Naruto and Sasuke face off against each other in the Boruto era more than justifies getting your hands on it.

Final Fantasy XVI

Final Fantasy XVI features a more mature and darker story compared to other games of the same genre, but the narrative is extremely compelling. Add to that the amazing visuals and the epic boss fights, and you have one of the best anime games on the PS5.

Final Fantasy XVI does away with the usual JRPG combat and instead streamlines the fights, with a focus on using Eikons during battles. Character development is also top-notch and makes the game all the more immersive. Not to mention, the game focuses more on the action instead of being a turn-based game like the old Final Fantasy games, ensuring that fans of the FF7 Remake games will absolutely adore it.

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact brings a huge and beautiful open world along with multiple diverse characters that make the game relatable. Hoyoverse’s gacha game uses a combat system that relies heavily on mixing and combining attacks of different characters to strategize powerful combinations.

Genshin Impact also gets regular updates, bringing new quests, story content, and characters, which makes the game fresh. The game is free-to-play, but players can use real money to acquire new characters, including those that may be in the meta. Regardless, many players have gone through much of the game without spending a single cent of their own money, adding a sense of choice.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board!

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board!’s strength is its multiplayer mode, and most play the game with a party. The game brings to life a world reminiscent of anime and also features multiple mini-games that players can enjoy while playing with friends.

The game also features a single-player mode that’s played against AI, but it pales in comparison to multiplayer. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Sweep the Board! also has unique board game mechanics like a day and night cycle. While there’s no actual combat in this game, the unique take on the otherwise one-note action scenes of the anime ensures it deserves a spot on this list.

One Piece Odyssey

One Piece Odyssey is a strategic turn-based RPG game that features stunning visuals and animations. The game focuses more on the story, and choices are factors in the success of fights. The highlight of this game is the fact that players can roam the world of One Piece as their favorite characters, including Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji.

Characters have unique abilities that can be useful in exploring uncharted areas and finding hidden items. The game also features multiple sidequests that add to the amount of time players can play even after finishing the main storyline. With multiple beloved characters returning to make their mark on the game, fans of the popular anime and manga series are sure to love this unique take on the series.
