Today’s technology is about as convenient as it gets, and one of the best things about it is that you can stream games right from your PS5 and make it perform better, too. With a bit of tinkering via Twitch and a couple of ganders to the system settings of your console, you, too, can optimize your console for streaming. How do you do all this? Well, we’re glad you asked.
First, you’ll want to actually set up your PS5 for streaming. This can be done by connecting your PlayStation Network account to either or both streaming services, Youtube and Twitch. Of course, your choice of the two depends on your preference, but we won’t bore you with the irrelevant details about them. That’s for you to decide. To be clear, though, it is not possible to stream directly from your PS5. You have to use a streaming service — we’re just putting that out there.
Anyways, once you’ve pressed the Create button on your Dualsense controller and selected Broadcast for whichever game you prefer, you can then select the streaming service you prefer, customise your broadcasting options, hit Go Live, and you’re all set. The broadcast card will then appear in the control centre.
But optimisation is a different story. This involves various things to check and tinker with. First, you’ll want to test your internet connection, which can be done by going into System Settings, Network, and then Connection Status. A minimum connection for streaming is 5 mps, but for a smooth connection, PlayStation recommends 15 mps. For the best streaming experience possible, 200 mps is recommended, but anything around 50-100 mps should be more than enough.
An ethernet cable can also vastly improve your streaming life, so definitely think about getting one, as the standard wireless service offered by routers can often be a bit finicky for most people. Another step to consider is clearing the PS5’s cache, as a system holding onto a lot of data can be slowed down considerably without you even knowing why. It’s easy to do, too: just put your PS5 in Safe Mode, hold the power button until you hear two beeps, and hit Clear System Software Cache with the x button on your controller. Booya.
There are also a few tiny things you can do within the Broadcast setting itself that make a huge difference. Adjusting the frame rate will allow you to choose one that suits your current internet speed to prevent your PS5 from overloading it. And while it may seem small in comparison, disabling overlays for viewer comments can decrease the amount of visual information pumped into your eyeballs at any given moment. But don’t be afraid to splurge a bit because a good quality microphone can also make a huge difference.
The current market surrounding microphones is a little out of our way for today, but trust us, don’t be afraid to be specific or particular. You don’t want to be stuck with something you don’t like!
Finally, two additional tips are to be fussy with your lighting, especially if you plan to be on camera. Most people probably won’t mention it when they’re watching you, but they’ll definitely be thinking it. If you look too dark or washed out, people won’t want to stick around because they’ll just go and find someone who looks better than you. Oh, and don’t be afraid to experiment. There are no rules; just do what suits you.
Hopefully, this piece has helped to enlighten readers about the wacky world of PS5 streaming. It’s a wild world out there, but at least we have video games. Good luck.
