Rumors have started to spread that Sony is looking to revive some of its dormant, fan-favorite IPs. Earlier this month, VGC writer Jordan Middler claimed on his podcast that he was under the impression that there was something inFAMOUS-related in the works at PlayStation, though he implied that it was not being made by Sucker Punch.
While Middler didn’t outright state what this inFAMOUS project was (for all we know, it could be a movie!), his claims were partially backed by industry insider and Twitter user extraordinaire, NateTheHate, shortly afterward. Although Nate didn’t outright comment on the state of the inFAMOUS franchise, he did allege that there is “truth to Sony exploring & considering reviving some of its older, unused IPs.”

Assuming all of this is true, then who will Sony task to make this new inFAMOUS game? And what about the other dormant franchises that Sony has in its treasure trove of IPs? Will any of those get revived, as well? In the event that the firm does indeed do so, here are 3 examples of studios that I believe would be a good fit for its rumored franchise revivals.
inFAMOUS – Virtuos

Though he doesn’t have any concrete sources to verify this, Jordan Middler has suggested that the inFAMOUS project he leaked might be a remake of the first two entries in the franchise. If so, then Bluepoint Games would be the perfect fit for such a project… had Sony not shut them down, that is.
Since Bluepoint Games no longer exists, the only other studio that would probably be an ideal fit for an inFAMOUS 1+2 remake (other than Sucker Punch itself, of course) is the Singaporean developer Virtuos. Now, Virtuos isn’t exactly a household name, especially compared to some of Sony’s own in-house developers, but it has gained a lot of attention recently due to its involvement in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake that launched last year.
Oblivion is, admittedly, a very different game from inFAMOUS, but Virtuos has proved that it can take classic video games and bring them up to modern standards, without sacrificing what makes them special. Sure, the technical performance of a Virtuos-made inFAMOUS remake would probably be a bit rough, considering what happened with Oblivion, but a game like this would be a great way to bring the series to modern PlayStation consoles.
PopoloCrois – Level-5

Most PlayStation gamers are probably not familiar with Sony’s strategy RPG series, PopoloCrois, but it’s a franchise that has a higher chance of coming back than one might think. To date, Sony has only released two installments in the PopoloCrois franchise outside of Japan; one of them, oddly enough, released exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS, rather than on any PlayStation platform.
Earlier this year, however, PopoloCrois series creator Yosuke Tamori hinted that there may be plans for a new game in the series on platforms other than PlayStation 5. Whether this potential game would come to PlayStation consoles at all is up in the air, but it seems that something PopoloCrois-related is being worked on in the background at Sony.
If a studio hasn’t already been assigned to this potential game, then Level-5 would probably be a great developer to choose for a new mainline PopoloCrois title. There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding Level-5 and its push for generative AI in video games, but the firm has shown that it still has the talent needed to make high-quality RPGs. Fantasy Life i and inazuma Eleven: Victory Road released last year to critical acclaim, and the other games that Level-5 is currently working on seem promising, as well.
Level-5 already has experience working with Sony to make exclusive games for the PlayStation brand, as it famously made the Dark Cloud and the White Knight Chronicles series of games for the PS2 and PS3, respectively. It would be great to see the two companies collaborate with each other again, after all these years.
Sadly, Yosuke Tamori passed away in April of this year, so even if Level-5 does make a new installment in his franchise, he won’t be around to see it get released.
Syphon Filter – People Can Fly

Syphon Filter is one of the first franchises that Sony’s Bend Studio made for the PlayStation line of consoles. The series debuted on the PS1 in 1999 and has seen several major releases, including two sequels, two PSP spin-off games, and a nonlinear installment on the PS2. Since 2007, however, the series has been effectively dead, with Bend Studio moving on to other IPs, like Resistance, Uncharted, and Days Gone.
It’s unknown what Bend Studio is currently working on, but if it’s not making a new Syphon Filter game, then maybe it’s time that Sony hands the franchise off to People Can Fly. Given that this Polish developer has never really made any super-popular video games, this may seem like a bit of an odd choice, but People Can Fly has kind of gained a reputation of stepping in to make new entries in franchises that it didn’t start. The company famously made the divisive Gears of War: Judgment for Xbox 360, and it also developed a VR version of Green Hell for PSVR2 and other platforms.
At the moment, People Can Fly is developing a new game based on a Sony IP under the codename Project Delta. It’s not clear what Project Delta is, but if this is a new Syphon Filter title, it would make perfect sense for the studio, as it has a lot of experience making third- and first-person shooters for consoles.
