One thing Sony managed to get right with the PlayStation 5 is the ability to change out its faceplates. I love the idea of being able to customize your console, though it typically means having to get it customized or modded. As a result, if your console breaks within the first year of purchasing it, there’s nothing PlayStation would be able to do because you voided your warranty. However, just because you can change out your PS5 faceplates doesn’t mean they made it very easy. The following will go over how to replace a PS5 faceplate.
How Do You Replace the Faceplates on PS5?
Before jumping into changing your PS5 faceplate, there are a few things you should be wary of. For starters, make sure your console is properly cooled off before heading in. If you try to remove the faceplate after having just shut the console off, you’ll be met with a fiery fate. Second, there are two different models of the PS5: Model CHI-2000/7000 and Model-1000.
Model CHI-2000/7000
Place your PS5 console on its side facing you, with the disc drive on the left-hand side. After that, follow these instructions:
- Light the cover ever so slightly, until the clips below it detach.
- After hearing the click of the clips detaching, pull the cover up and toward you.
- Using the new cover, insert its clips into the holes you just removed the old cover from.
- Once the clips are in their respective slots, push the cover down until you hear a click again.
- There shouldn’t be any resistance. If there is, check to ensure the clips are securely in the holes.
Model CHI-1000
Like the above, place your PS5 console on its side, though with its back facing you and the PlayStation logo facing up. Once completed, follow these instructions:
- Grip the front cover just about the PlayStation symbol and slightly pull it up and to your right.
- Make note of the holes that held the cover in place on the console.
- To place a new cover, simply place the new cover in the respective holes.
- Once placed, pull it from right to left.
- You’ll hear a click to ensure this was done correctly.
- Flip the console around to the other side.
- Grip the back cover, and similarly to the above, pull it slightly up and to your right.
- There should be no resistance as you are able to pull the faceplate off.
- Slide the new cover on and make sure you hear a click.
Now that your cover is on, check one final time that there is nothing loose to avoid overheating.
